I came from a poor family. I was planted and raised in a backwater of Northern England, and I left the academic world behind at age 16. Most of my school friends went to work in factories; there seemed to be few prospects for someone like me, who was inspired by music and fashion. Luckily, I went looking for a job in a hair salon –– simply so I could have some money in my pocket. Since that fateful day, with hard work and passion, I have traveled the world, moved to New York City and done many incredible things.
I have styled hair for musicians and movie stars. I have created hairstyles for fashion magazine covers, and been backstage at some of the world’s most glamorous fashion shows. I have been on television and become something of a hairdressing celebrity. I go on stage to show great hairdressing to thousands of my peers.
I have created my own product company. I have created an education company that inspires and motivates hairdressers from across the world. I have built a salon that makes more than 1000 clients a week look and feel fabulous. I have my own cosmetology school where we can train the next generation according to my vision of excellence and integrity. And perhaps most amazing of all, I have a team of 110 who all work together to elevate the standards and perception of hairdressing across all its many frontiers.
